Umbela Brasil (the Brazilian Umbrella) is a not for profit organisation dedicated to Brazilian dance and drumming, cultural exchange through travel and child sponsorship. The Australian arm of Umbela Brasil was formed in 2008.

An umbela is the shape of a tree branching outwards, it is the root of the English word umbrella. An umbela it is the form we take, branching out from Brazilian arts - our core - we teach and perform musical expressions that lead to personal, community and cultural connection and expression.

Umbela Brasil (Australia) is a global collaboration between professional artists, dancers, drummers as well as students of Brazilian dance and drumming. We hail from Australia, UK, Japan, France and Brazil.

We can spice up your event with over 50 drummers, 20 dancers all with parade costumes, such as those seen in carnival in Brazil. Or we also specialise in rare musical and dance forms for small intimate gatherings, such as Samba de coco, Maracatu, Samba reggae and Afoxe. All this comes out of our unique space of collaboration and love.

Umbela Brasil in Australia is : SambaExchange (Sydney/Brazil), King Parrot Samba (Blue Mountains), Samba Frog (Newcastle ), Samba Ninja (Sydney/London), Dani Pontes Photography (Sydney/Brazil) and Umbela Arts (UK , Paris and Brazil), as well as other artistic groups according to occasion such as SambaLouco, Sydney Samba, Reverse Garbage.
